DIAGNOSIS OF POTENTIAL GEOGRAPHIC INDICATION OF LAVANDA DE MORRO REUTERGeographical Indication; Lavender; Morro Reuter
Geographical Indication (GI) is an important Intellectual Property asset that aims to differentiate a product or service through unique characteristics resulting from its geographical origin, which combines natural and human factors. This protection encourages association and cooperation and strengthens the tradition of know-how in the region. This project's central question is: Does the Lavandas de Morro Reuter have the potential to be recognized as a Geographical Indication (GI)? This study aims to diagnose the potential for recognition of this Geographical Indication. To do so, it will be analyzed the resources necessary for GI registration, as well as identify the qualities, tradition, and notoriety in the cultivation of the Morro Reuter lavender. For the development of this study, it will be used a descriptive and exploratory research with a qualitative approach, focusing on a case study. It will be also made a documentary research, and interviews will be conducted with participants in the production chain. It is expected that this project will result in a diagnosis of the GI potential through a Descriptive Technical Report, and in the publication of a scientific article, aiming to contribute to the theoretical understanding of the proposed topic.
