The furniture industry in Rio Grande do Sul holds significant economic relevance but faces challenges regarding the adoption of sustainable practices adapted to the reality of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The increasing pressure for more sustainable standards, combined with the lack of accessible and technically viable guidelines, highlights the need for further investigation into the topic. This study aims to analyze sustainable production practices used nationally and internationally, focusing on their applicability to SMEs in the furniture sector in Rio Grande do Sul. This is a qualitative and applied research composed of four stages: (1) a systematic literature review on industrial sustainability and good production practices; (2) a technological prospection based on patents and databases to identify applicable innovations; (3) semi-structured interviews with business owners, specialists, and institutional representatives; and (4) qualitative validation of the methodology and findings by academic advisors and, when possible, sector agents. As a result, the study aims to develop a technical report containing recommendations and organized information to guide SMEs in identifying sustainable solutions compatible with their operational context. This document will serve an informative purpose only, with no prescriptive or empirical validation intent. Furthermore, the collected data is expected to support the future development of a scientific article addressing the theoretical and applied discussions surrounding innovation and sustainability in the furniture industry, contributing to academic knowledge and strengthening the sector.
