FOSTERING INNOVATION IN CREDIT COOPERATIVES: OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES IN THE ADOPTION OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF TECHNOLOGY PROTECTION AND TRANSFER
Artificial Intelligence; Credit Cooperatives; Financial Institution
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is present in the financial sectors, causing changes that permeate the automation of banking services, the large-scale personalization of financial products, and the strengthening of cybersecurity systems. The transformations promoted by AI in the financial system result in innovative solutions that not only strengthen this emerging technology but also have potential applications for developing and improving the sector. Concerning credit unions, barriers such as high implementation costs, lack of knowledge and training, the complexity of integration with legacy systems, and even the possibility of digital exclusion hinder the adoption of AI. Given the context, questions arise about which AI solutions in the financial sector could help Brazilian credit unions. Therefore, the present study aims to investigate financial market-oriented solutions that use AI and can contribute in the context of Brazilian credit cooperatives. This study adopts a qualitative and quantitative methodological approach, encompassing a systematic literature review, patent analysis, interviews with credit union managers, and a case study. Initial results indicate that the registration of patents in AI is growing at the same time as the number of scientific publications increases, highlighting opportunities for credit unions to adopt agile and innovative strategies to remain competitive. The study will bring a technological product, a Guidance Guide, to outline practical strategies for adopting AI, focusing on its protection and maximization of benefits. At the end of this study, it is expected that the practical information developed will stimulate innovation, contributing to implementing an AI structure seeking to contribute to the development of credit cooperatives.
