AREA: Multidisciplinar
SUMMARY:

The present project explores the intersection between Geographical Indications (GIs) and wine tourism, highlighting the importance of protecting and promoting certified wine products and the related tourism experiences. GIs certify products originating from specific geographical regions, ensuring their quality, authenticity, and connection to cultural traditions and local heritage. In Brazil, the Vale dos Vinhedos Designation of Origin (D.O.V.V.) is an example of a GI that certifies wines and sparkling wines produced in a specific area, recognized for its unique characteristics and superior quality. However, one of the main challenges faced by GIs is the low level of public awareness and appreciation, as well as the difficulty of actively engaging producers in the use and promotion of the quality seal. The overall aim of this study is to create a wine tourism experience for the DO Vale dos Vinhedos. In this way, it seeks to investigate the relationship between Geographical Indications and wine tourism in Vale dos Vinhedos, with the goal of developing a wine tourism experience that enhances the value of the GI and promotes knowledge about certified products. The methodology of this work is structured in four stages: 1) Literature review; 2) Data collection; 3) Data analysis; 4) Development of technological products and artifacts. The systematic literature review aims to identify the main concepts and studies on wine tourism and GIs, contributing to the development of the project's other actions. Data collection aims to investigate the reality of the wineries regarding DO products and gather information about potential resources for a tourism experience. Initially, data collection involves interviews with the 13 producers in Vale dos Vinhedos who hold the D.O.V.V. certification. In parallel, an in loco assessment will be conducted to identify resources and attractions that can be explored by wine tourism. The next stage consists of data analysis, using various techniques. For the systematic review, Bibliometrix and Voyant Tools will be used to extract the most relevant information from the selected articles. For the interview analysis, Voyant Tools will be applied to identify relevant categories for the study, such as the appreciation of certified products and the region's tourist resources and attractions. The final stage involves the development of technological products and artifacts. In this case, the MESO (Methodology for Organized Meaningful Experiences) methodology will be used for the strategic design of the wine tourism experience, focusing on the integration of certified wineries and the promotion of the GI. The artifact to be developed will be a technical report detailing the process of creating the experience, including the evaluation and adjustment phases, which will be presented to APROVALE.  The main expected outcomes of this study include a scientific article on the relationship between wine tourism and GIs in Vale dos Vinhedos and the creation of an innovative wine tourism experience based on the MESO methodology, which could be replicated in other regions with GI certification. It is hoped that this work will contribute to strengthening the Vale dos Vinhedos GI, promoting greater knowledge and appreciation of certified products among both tourists and producers. Possible limitations of the study include the difficulty of involving all producers in the region in the research, as well as the resistance of some wineries to adopting wine tourism practices focused on promoting the GI.
