The focus on sustainability is growing in the wine sector, highlighting Geographical Indications as instruments to disseminate, measure, and manage sustainable development indicators. The objective of this study is to evaluate the potential for integrating sustainability guidelines into wine GIs in Brazil. The study will evaluate three GIs, (1) Indication of Origin (IP) Vinhos de Pinto Bandeira, (2) Denomination of Origin (DO) Altos de Pinto Bandeira and (3) DO Campos de Cima da Serra, for wines and sparkling wines, which is in the structuring phase. The methodological procedure was based on Design Science Research and the research steps include: Systematic Literature Review, data analysis with R Studio and Bibliometrix, the application of a validated framework for evaluating sustainability performance within wineries and associations and evaluation of best practices in the international scenario through consultation of gray literature, documentary research and a technical visit to Spain, in wine regions with DO of the Canary Islands and creation of the artifact. Preliminary results show that there are actions aimed at sustainability in the GIs identified in the study. The project's perspective is to present proposals to be integrated into the Technical Specifications Notebooks (CET) and that can be implemented in Brazilian GIs.
