SUMMARY:

Internationalization is an essential strategy for the growth and competitiveness of organizations in a wide range of segments, and can occur through imports or exports. The research will focus on exports, which can be defined as the temporary or permanent exit from the national territory of goods or services originating or coming from the country. Although much research on internationalization is based mainly on developed countries, there are still gaps in studies of this process in emerging countries, such as Brazil. Thus, it is worth highlighting that for a company to enter the international market, some factors are essential, such as, for example, the strategic analysis of the organization, aiming to achieve what the literature addresses as better export performance. Export performance is described as a combination of the company's results and international commercial interactions, including aspects such as sales, growth and profits obtained from exports. Thus, this study aims to analyze the configurations of factors that contribute to the success of the strategic export performance of wine industries (located in Vale dos Vinhedos-RS/Brazil) that operate in the international market. Vale dos Vinhedos was selected as the object of study because it led the innovation process in the Brazilian wine sector. Likewise, the region offers a combination of factors that have contributed to the advancement of the industry and to overcoming significant gaps in information, practices, regulations and markets, which in turn have stimulated competitive strategies among wineries with the aim of exporting Brazilian wine over the last few years. Regarding the method, which will be quantitative, the research began with a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), aiming to explore the theoretical framework of strategic export performance. In a second stage, a Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) will be carried out to identify the causal conditions that affect export performance. The final phase of the study will use Design Science Research (DSR) to develop the practical artifact, a Guide to Internationalization, which will help wineries formulate more effective internationalization strategies. It is expected that the results of the study, as well as the tool, will contribute to improving the strategic performance of wineries in Vale dos Vinhedos and can be applied to other companies in the same segment or to other sectors.
