SUMMARY:

Downy mildew is the main fungal disease for viticulture, causing yield losses worldwide. The
search for technology for the production of grapes under sustainable management is a necessary
trend, with organic production and the use of varied rates being one of the alternatives adopted.
The use of Bordeaux mixture as a phytosanitary treatment in organic production management is
widely used in viticulture, however, it is necessary to seek solutions that reduce the concentrations
and application rates of the syrup. Therefore, the objective was to identify whether there is a
fungicidal effect against downy mildew by reducing the concentrations of copper sulfate and the
rate of application of Bordeaux mixture in organic vineyards compared to the treatment already
used on the property. The research took place during the 2023/2024 harvest in an organic
vineyard of the Isabel cultivar, located in Garibaldi, RS. Two treatments were carried out: 1)
Experiment (T1): 14 applications of Bordeaux mixture in concentrations per hectare of 0.3:1 with
an application rate of 500 l and 666.6 per hectare; 0.3:2 at 416.6 l and at 500 l; 0.6:2 at 666.6 l,
750 l and at 833.33 l and 1 ;1.5 at 416.6 l. 2) Control (T2): 13 applications of Bordeaux mixture at
rates already used by the winegrower, with concentrations per hectare of 0.3:1 in 766.6 l and
1000 liters of application rate; 0.3:2 at 766.6 l and at 1200 l; 0.7:0.7 in 1033.3 l; 0.8:1.5 in 1500 l,
1:1 in 583.33 l and in 1166.6 l rate per hectare. Evaluations of the severity of downy mildew were
carried out on leaves and bunches, leaf samples were collected by treatment immediately after
applications to evaluate the amount of metallic copper through the tissue digestion process and
productivity by treatment was evaluated by harvesting and weighing the bunches. It was evident
that the reduction in the rate of application of Bordeaux mixture and metallic copper in the vineyard
achieved the same fungal and productive effect against mildew compared to the treatment already
used on the property. In both treatments, Cu accumulated in plant tissue was below the
appropriate range. Regardless of the production system (organic or conventional), the Isabel
cultivar proved to be extremely susceptible to high rainfall conditions, affecting its productivity.
